The future vision The plan for the elimination of single-use plastics that Arcos Dorados began to implement since 2018 has allowed it to reduce the consumption of more than 1,300 tons of said material. Since then, in all markets in which it operates, the company has stopped providing straws and, in 2019, began removing lids from hot and cold drinks served in restaurants.

Constantly moving to eliminate short-lived materials from operation, the company modified the design of McFlurry dessert spoons throughout the region, thus reducing plastic consumption per unit by 40%. Oil is one of the main pollutants of the environment, and it is estimated that 1 liter of frying oil poured into pipes can contaminate 1,000 liters of water. The oil already used in the kitchens of McDonald's restaurants is collected periodically by certified suppliers, and after processing it is marketed; 1 million liters of oil are recycled each year to market it as biodiesel in industrial boilers. Arcos Dorados suppliers have an animal welfare audit and are sought to be local suppliers; In Mexico, 80% of all suppliers are Mexican and have animal welfare certification.
